“Childhood” is a gliding, stripped-back song where Sarah Klang opens up about the pain of re-visiting such memories from her childhood. “I thought this would be the best of times”, she says in contrast to the reality which left her having to work out body image issues that began during that time in therapy. “Those distant memories always come back to haunt me,” she sings mournfully. “I think this is a song where I’m actually putting a full stop on looking back at this time,” Klang says. “It’s been a recurring theme for my last four albums, and I’ve spent so much of my adult life trying to make sense of it, some of it via a therapist. This is me looking at the complexities of childhood and how it stays with you, how it can be harder to shake than people realise. It’s also about me putting it behind once and for all and trying to get on with my life.”
