22-year-old indie pop-rocker Drew Tarves croons about things he experiences - a hopeful and honest perspective on the highs and lows of youth is embedded in his lyrics. On "Boyfriend Material" he channels the best of The Strokes with a gritty guitar line under his commanding voice. In his own words he says that: "On the surface, Boyfriend Material is about being avoidant and afraid of commitment, but I think what the core of the song is really about is being too insecure to let somebody else in. I wrote it the day after seeing The 1975 play. I said to David, "We need to write something arrogant but somehow sexy."' And he did just that.
