Bestfriend was half-formed through a mutual friend and half-formed through Instagram DMs in 2018. The indie-pop duo is a culmination of two young artists, Stacy Kim and Kaelan Geoffrey, making music from thousands of miles apart; Stacy in the west, Kaelan in the east. The band released a pair of EPs places i’ve lived and places i’ve left in 2021 and 2023. The project received accolades from the likes of Under The Radar, EARMILK, Exclaim! and The Line of Best Fit. Describing their new single, “WHY DO WE DO THIS?,” Stacy and Kaelan say “It’s a song that asks why we get out of bed in the mornings despite the emotional toll of feeling stuck in cycles of self-doubt, loneliness, and the constant (and often self-inflicted) pressure to keep going." The upbeat production is very inspired by 80s synth pop, while the back and forth of their vocals is signature to Bestfriend’s style.
