If Kingdom Come reflects the experiences of Elle in this world, Don't Look Back amplifies its delivery in the story of the character of Woodes. “She’s coming out of Hibernation into this strong version of herself,” she reveals. “I’m putting Woodes in a fantasy utopia. A tribal-style percussive groove underscore “Don’t Look Back.” As the beat shuffles forward punctuated by cello, she keeps her head high and urges “Don’t look back. You can never look back.” “I see the trailer for the Woodes movie in my head,” she smiles. “It’s a grand vision of the legends before us and going after your dream. It’s gritty and immediate.” This song was written late one evening, built from industrial sound design whilst a thunderstorm came in outside. We were manipulating sounds and created a full dark bed for the vocal. A dream I have always had for Woodes is to have my music accompany a film or game trailer or TV theme. As I was writing I would play movies in the background on loop to inspire me to write epic battle scenes, exposition or high energy action sequences. Essentially Woodes is back. This is the dark side. In the end, Woodes offers up a soundtrack you can lean on eternally. “I’m a stronger version of myself,” she leaves off. “At some points, I’m pulling back to Elle and the most vulnerable songwriting. There are other times where I’m going all in as big as possible. I’m really proud of it."
