Miss World is the latest project from London-born pop-provocateur, Natalie Chahal. After teaching herself to play guitar via guitartab.com, Natalie began touring in punk bands during her early teens. After playing hundreds of shows across the UK and Europe, travelling mostly via public transit, Natalie started writing and producing music for her solo project. Obsessed with Youtube, Chahal began setting her lo-fi bedroom recordings to her own visual collages featuring scuzzy footage of pop culture icons throughout the ages; from Andy Warhol to Kim Kardashian. The videos quickly caught the attention of major label A&Rs, leading to a multi-album deal with Universal Records. However, feeling artistically unfulfilled and realistically unable to pay rent, Natalie left London in search of new ground to hone her skills, not only as a songwriter and producer, but also as a video editor and creative director. Further moves across North America inspired what would become the Miss World audio/visual experience. Recording direct-to-laptop using first-takes only, a raw, unapologetic sound was born. Miss World’s debut four-song Waist Management EP was released via Stockholm’s PNKSLM Recordings on Cassette Store Day, October 2017. Sonically – a melodic, lo-fi, garage-pop classic – but lyrically, a sharp satire on a society in which she fully participates. i-D Magazine donned the EP ‘so refreshingly of our generation — while some pop stars still rely on hopelessly soppy romances to fuel their glossy concoctions, Miss World’s electric guitar-lined tracks inhabit the same sphere as the group Whatsapp in which you boomerang memes with your BFFLs.’
