Hailing from Scotland and Italy, Fraser Shaw and Riccardo Derio, known by their stage name Alex Sonata & TheRio, have rapidly ascended the global trance scene. The duo have been collaborating since 2018, garnering praise from the likes of Gareth Emery, Cosmic Gate, Sander Van Doorn, Armin Van Buuren and many others. After many collaborations, the pairing made it official in 2020 and Alex Sonata & TheRio was born. Their recent release on Anjunabeats, “Cala Luna” skyrocketed to #3 on Beatport Top Trance and gained support from Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten, Armin Van Buuren, Ben Malone, Genix, Fatum, Amy Wiles and many many more tastemakers worldwide. Their last single, “Breath Of The Wild” - inspired by the eponymous entry in The Legend of Zelda video game series, the track rapidly topped the Beatport Trance chart and was selected by Above&Beyond themselves for their own Anjunabeats Volume 16 compilation, released in July 2022.
