杨勇，自幼生活在北京民俗文化的大环境中，受到戏曲和曲艺熏陶，对非西方文化有着浓厚的兴趣，但却是在西洋音乐理念和技术中训练出来的音乐家。曾任教于美国新英格兰音乐学院音乐理论系和中央音乐学院作曲系。作为美国作曲家作家出版家协会（ASCAP）会员,他的作品经常在世界各地上演。他的《对位法》上下册由湖南文艺出版社出版，并多次再版，成为国内音乐理论教学领域的畅销书。 Yang Yong, who lived in the environment of folk culture in Beijing since he was a child, was influenced by local operas and storytelling, and has a strong interest in non-western culture, but he is a musician trained in Western music concepts and techniques.
