The Edmonton-based troubadour, Martin Kerr, has been making connections with people through his music for years. Through heartfelt lyrics, delicate instrumentation, and sparse production, he explores the nuances of everyday life as well as its wonders with a poetic and poignant perspective. Throughout his career, Martin has supported Sarah McLachlan during a stadium show, opened Walk Off The Earth and shared a stage with Blue Rodeo. He’s performed with the Edmonton Symphony and graced stages in over 35 countries. Martin’s live show is a wonderous showcase of his natural ability as a storyteller conveying vulnerability, adventure, hope, and authentic connections. Collaborating with labelmate Ben Cramer (Old Sea Brigade), Martin’s new single “What You Don’t Know” is about focusing in the moment and living an authentic life. “As an artist I've always lived with uncertainty. Is this any good? Do I know what I'm doing? Is anyone going to hear this or understand it?” muses Kerr. “I think most people feel that way, whatever they're doing with their life. There's a magic in letting go of knowing what's going to happen next. I feel that intensely in the process of writing songs and creating new art. Often I have no idea what I'm going to do or say until I start. ‘What You Don’t Know’ is one of those songs. I wrote it with Ben Cramer (Old Sea Brigade) in Nashville, on the first day of my writing trip, the first time we met each other. This song happened very naturally, and feels quite dream-like. When life gets hard, and success seems far away, sometimes all I can do is focus on the moment, the next tiny step in creating a meaningful, authentic life. 'We'll build a house here, we'll write our own song - one note, one nail at a time'”
