SUB_tl 078 Hd Substance Wasps Summer is coming and it’s time to share our lives with all kinds of insects. This is the soundtrack of one of our favorites, the beautiful wasp. Wasp is also the name of one of Hd Substance’s studio weapons, the Wasp deLuxe Synthesizer, a super basic tool with a specially crafted filter and crappy oscillators. This EP is an homage to the wasp as an insect and as an instrument. The concept is to use the same synth to create all the non drum parts, creating a main sequence and then resampling and mangling it in every possible way using traditional sampler techniques without the aid of a computer. All pieces were sequenced on analog step sequencers, all drums were made with old analog and hybrid drum machines and old samplers, all the arrangement was done on a digital sequencer and then recorded from the analog mixer into DAT. No screens involved in the creative process. Five cuts are the result of this challenge and each one is named after a particular type of wasp, all of them are aimed at the layering dj’s and the educated dancefloors out there.
