Tulip Pond (Rework)

Tulip Pond (Rework)

A trademark or tagline of sorts, this is perhaps the best way to understand the music of Justnormal: "Some beats. Any time. Both ways. From here or just normal." Behind the moniker Justnormal is LA-based musician and lo-fi producer Quentin Mulligan. His downtempo beats balance warm and somber soundscapes with crisp yet mellow melodies. With each instrumental, he builds a new immersive chill-hop atmosphere for the listener to get lost in. To date, his songs have garnered over 70 million streams. Justnormal never questioned his musical inclinations, even as a child. By the age of 8, he began serious classical piano training, and by the age of 15, was performing solo piano concertos with regional symphony orchestras. Though he went to an arts conservatory for high school, it wasn't until college that he started to produce hip-hop music as Justnormal. His classical upbringing and 5 years spent living in NYC sculpted his bicoastal sound and fortified his distinctive style of lofi hip-hop. Following Vanisher, his debut album with Nettwerk Music Group, and his first album since 2020, Justnormal returns with a remix to the track "Tulip Pond". The rework comes courtesy of G Mills and provides us with a downtempo lofi rendition of an already chilled-out track. About G Mills: Based out of Brooklyn New York, multi-instrumentalist Gabe Millman has created his unmistakable jazz-inspired lofi project “G Mills.” For as far back as he can remember, Gabe has always been a musician, with his trajectory starting at 3 years old when he would bang on pots and pans with wooden spoons to emulate drum sticks. With encouragement from his grandfather, Gabe would eventually begin traditional classical training and go on to play in several bands, orchestras, and ensemble groups throughout his young adult life. In college, Gabe’s music career came to a distinctive focal point. He studied classical percussion, music theory & history, and focused on his major of sound recording technology. It was through these years of study combined with Gabe’s natural talent that would sculpt his acute sense of harmony and melody, something synonymous with the G Mills project. After working professionally as a mastering engineer from 2015-2017, Gabe would finally move to Brooklyn, New York to begin releasing music under G Mills.
