Contemporary/New Music Trio in the Rain For Piano, Harp, Glasses This is a Trio piece for Piano, Harp and Glasses (created by filling glasses with different quantities of water.) The inspiration for the work comes from the experience of a rainy day in the composer’s childhood. She was sitting in front of a window and listening to the sounds of the rain while she was watching people and cars crossing the street; the scene made her to think of her world in the future. This work is to commemorate the composer’s childhood, which is gone and will never appear again. This piece uses the Piano and Harp as acoustic instruments. However, the Glasses are the most interesting part. The sounds from each Glass imitate the sounds of raindrops hitting different objects. The similar percussion sounds work with the Piano and Harp, bringing a fresh rainy day from the composer’s childhood to the audience.
