Tóxic@

Toxic@, is the latest release from the boundary-pushing, and gernre-dismantling Mexican/American artist Sueuga. Raised in Oakland, California, Sueuga has been at the forefront of cutting edge of club experimentation, and is a founding member of the Bay Area transqueer club night and collective “glossed”. Her production career began with her work with reggaeton luminaries Neoperreo and La Favi. With her debut solo EP Grieta on Terror Negro Records in 2019, and subsequent releases on Mexican imprint NAAFI, Argentinian label Hiedrah Club de Baile, Uruguayan Salviatek, and Berlin based Soul Feeder. Toxic@ was born out of a place of intense emotional turmoil, as Sueuga grappled with the aftermath of a traumatic relationship. Through a series of poems she found ways to express her pain and longing, weaving them into a sonic tapestry of distorted noise, frenetic energy, and blistering tempos. The result is a breathtakingly raw and unflinchingly honest work of art that transcends genre boundaries and defies easy categorization. Contorting fragments of hardstyle, grime, reggaeton and noise into stylistically divergent mutant hybrids. The first track “Puedo Convertirme En Ti” is a brutal and beautiful call for help, as dystopian drones pulsate beneath the haunting and heavily processed vocal. A touching and evocative lament, and a poignent indication of what is to come. The title track Tóxic@ is an industrial club experiment, expressing an emotional vulnerability underneath pounding kick drums, thunderous bass frequencies and disembodied vocals. Transmutación makes the final leap towards salvation and liberation, with a heavy weight mutant techno anthem that transcends its form, and that ends with a touching and ascendant choral epilogue, offering a glimmer of hope after the darkness that precedes it. Established as a performer, and artist, her sound installations and performances have featured in internationally renowned institutions like MASS MoCA, Cafe Oto, the Camden Arts Centre, and the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center in New York. As a dj she is also gaining notoriety with esoteric mixes on Boiler Room and NTS.
