As a forward thinking bridge between UK Garage and House music, Timehri Records has established itself as a fiercely independent, leading contributor to the underground scene in the UK and overseas since its inception. Three records deep, production guest mixes via cassette and events for the sonic purist provide the output for this label, who’s emphasis on heritage and the afrofuturistic ideas that underpin it, hold huge importance. For their biggest project yet, label owner T Dunn further showcases his creative expertise by presenting the full Timehri narrative in LP form through a collaboration with label mainstay and master of his art, DJ Perception. Born from time spent together in the Moodswing HQ and the ongoing exchange of dubs and ideas, something special was forming. The result? A Timehri concept album interpreted by Perception. Historically, Afrofuturism can be seen as a bridge between future and past reimagining the experiences of Black people through science fiction, something which the Timehri narrative itself inherently leans towards, with its self styled messaging of ‘Intergalactic Crud’ and it’s other worldly incarnations, being a core part in forming its musical message. Key figures such as Jeff Mills, Drexiya and Flying Lotus have all used this form of creative expression over the years, forming a significant part of musical history in the process. Conversations between Dunn & Perception about his production processes in UK Garage music, reveal it as “Journey like”. Imagined in the driver’s seat of his MK3 Golf GTI, traveling down a long winding road, journeying through the space like darkness, making the construction of the album entwine the label-producer narrative even more. As mentioned in the lore of the label, Timehri itself is a Guyanese Amerindian word meaning Rock Motif or Petroglyph, the Timehri represent personifications of the universe as viewed by their creators, painted thousands of years ago deep in the Guyana hinterland. During the year 2022 after the August rains, the Timehri, unbeknownst to their creators, would align with star constellations in the night sky. This one in a million alignment opened an inter-dimensional seismic shift, ripping the fabric of time itself.
