With roots in Houston, Texas, atmospheric/lo-fi artist Samuel Proffitt, grew up entrenched in various genres from screamo and punk to indie, folk, and jazz; however, his musical origins lie in his own writing, poetry, and interest in philosophy. "I wrote this after reading my favorite short story by Nabokov—“Sounds,” a devastatingly beautiful, yet soul-crushing story about love and the human condition," says Samuel Proffitt. "It made such an impression on me the first time I read it, that I couldn’t do anything but write a song. Piano and strings are recorded live, while piano was recorded in the studio where Sufjan recorded part of Feel the Illinoise."
