The second volume in the series sees the turn of Russian Girls - the brainchild of Guðlaugur Halldór Einarsson, a member of the alternative Icelandic band Fufanu who just released their second album ‘Sports’ and of the duo Captain Fufanu before that. As russian.girls, Einarsson explores a range of sounds, fitting perfectly into the the Sisters & Brothers ethos. ‘Are We Here Yet’ is a darkly comic and wonky electro pop song full of angular sounds and thick synth riffs. ‘Þeir & Þær’ is another atmospheric oddity, channeling new wave and industrial sounds from the early 80s. ‘Amfetamíngangsterar’ starts with a stripped down motorik beat and devleops into an echo drenched groover with off-kilter melodies and urgent, nervous stabs. ‘Autopilot’ continues the outsider pop vibe, featuring a loose, detuned groove and spiky guitars around a killer vocal. What’s clear is that the Sisters & Brothers series is going to provide endless surprises and treasures for the adventurous listener.
