Dustan Townsend, better known as Fish in a Birdcage, has written his own rules since 2014. Rooted in his upbringing, Dusty's mother imparted the fundamental rule #1, "Be Safe," and more rules followed with time. Reflecting this ethos, Dusty’s compositions are similarly titled a "rule." We’ve now reached “Rule #44 - Badger,” an alt-rock-cello track prophesizing about fighting battles in life when it would be simpler to give up. Dusty expands saying the song “explores the metaphor of life as a boxing match, where life itself is the opponent. Life can be relentless and unforgiving, pushing you to your limits and beyond. In moments of intense struggle, how will you respond? Will you rise to the challenge and continue fighting, or will you surrender? Remember, even if you feel defeated, the final bell hasn’t rung yet, and there's always the opportunity to get back up and keep fighting." The upbeat syncopated song is a fun mix of sonics, borrowing themes of pub tracks that one might stumble upon traveling the Alps, accordion included. Produced by Howard Redekopp (Mother Mother, Tegan and Sara) as part of his Mentors album sessions. For fans of Mother Mother, Rio Romeo, & Will Wood.
