Pa Pa Power

Pa Pa Power

Chan Marshall’s latest covers album as Cat Power arrives, as all of her music does, at just the perfect time. Covers is a deeply felt, intimate, and altogether holistic collection of songs intended as a healing salve for the artist and listener alike, showcasing Marshall’s singular chronicling of the ever-evolving great American songbook. Self-produced and featuring renditions of classic songs from artists like Jackson Browne, the Replacements, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Billie Holiday, and the Cat Power catalog itself, Covers is at once a reminder of Marshall’s artistically intuitive power and the latest chapter in a truly illustrious career. Chan Marshall on Pa Pa Power: "I started playing this solo in 2012 (originally more dissonant and trance-y), when the Occupy Wall street protests were going on. Occupy was bunkering down and saying, "This shit's ****ing ****ed up." And helping citizens be a voice in their local government. They got a lot of good things done, but the American media killed the movement. I felt like this song was relative to that." New standalone single from Cat Power, her first new music since 2018’s ‘Wanderer’ album. “Pa Pa Power” is a cover of the Dead Man’s Bones song (Ryan Gosling’s band) and will feature on the new upcoming Cat Power album ‘Covers’, tentatively scheduled for January 2022 release. The single is released ahead of Cat Power’s 17 date N.American tour which runs from September 11th to October 3rd, kicking off at Pitchfork Festival in Chicago. Chan Marshall is a master of the art and craft of covers as she has displayed numerous times in her remarkable career and on records such as ‘Jukebox' and 'The Covers Record'. On ‘Covers’, Cat Power’s 11th studio album, she selects a diverse collection of songs
