There's an ease to the music Riley Pearce makes. That's testament to how effortlessly he became a songwriter. Watching his dad in cover bands inspired him to pick up the guitar. By 17, he was busking at local farmer's markets—playing covers but sneaking in a few original folky compositions about what he saw around him or the relationships he had formed. Speaking about his song “Only You”, Riley says, "This song is actually from the perspective of my daughter. It’s set up lyrically to be a multi-directional love song but it’s written from her perspective and built around her (somewhat assumed, with arguably a large body of evidence) feelings towards us. In starting daycare my mind and heart worried about those moments initially when she’d be scared and want either myself or Alex to be there to comfort her. That’s where the line “Only you will do” came from."
