Birmingham (UK) based independent artist Rebecca Downes announces the fourth single from her highly acclaimed fifth studio album The Space Between Us. To be released on 2nd June 2023 through her own label Mad Hat Records, the single will be available on Digital Download and all streaming platforms. Another Steve Birkett and Rebecca Downes creation, the track is a guitar-based heavy riff, with Gospel overtones, about being who you truly are and never kneeling to others. It has many of the same sentiments as the previous Birkett/Downes anthems Believe and Stand On My Feet. The Space Between Us album was released on 11 November and was received enthusiastically by fans and reviewers alike. Described as “standing head and shoulders above the rest of the new releases” by Planet Rock Radio’s Bernard Doherty when he played the title track on his show, the release was No 3 in the Independent Blues Broadcasters Association chart of most played albums in November and No 6 in the same chart for December. As with the rest of the album, this track was programmed, recorded, produced and engineered by Steve Birkett with assistance from Steve Birkett Jnr. Mixing and mastering was by Gavin Monaghan of Magic Garden Studio in Wolverhampton, whose extensive track record includes working with Editors, Scott Matthews, Robert Plant and Paolo Nutini. On this track, and throughout the album, Rebecca’s signature vocal style is to the fore and Steve’s multi-instrumental talents are on display, along with important contributions from the recording band – Neil Ablard (drums), Nigel Darvill (Keys) and Vince Yarrington (Bass). This is the fourth single from the album – Hold On was released in April 2022, Rebecca’s cover of the Free song A Little Bit Of Love was released in September 2022 and the title track The Space Between Us was released on 10 February 2023. Talking about the song Rebecca says: “This is a song about living your truth and not being driven by the views and opinions of others. It’s the most powerful song on the album, and whilst in this, its original form, it isn’t radio friendly, we felt we should give it the exposure and prominence it deserves by releasing the unabridged track as a single. It is very much in the zone of Believe and Stand On My Feet and I absolutely love it!” Steve Birkett continues: “We wanted this track to be bold and energising and I am delighted with the way it has turned out, as well as the positive feedback we’ve had from people about it.
