The first verse in this song actually begins with lyrics that I wrote when I was 14 years old," reflects Presence about new single "Nightmare." "I touch on the fact that I felt like nobody could relate to my struggle at the time which I think is normal for many kids dealing with mental health issues at that age. However, fast-forward only about a year and that’s when I really began growing an audience from my music speaking on these struggles of mine. Given the response from people on the internet I was able to realize I wasn’t alone in these feelings, but it didn’t change much about the way I felt. Since then, it’s still been a continuous struggle with my mental health, and that’s what the rest of the song is about. Depression feels like recycled emotions that I’ve already been through, but still don’t know how to conquer. “Nightmare” is the full encapsulation of these feelings I’ve had throughout my teenage years, and the attempt at finding a more joyful version of me in the process.
