A decade in the making, 'Loving Rotting Leaving' is a triumphant mixture of crushed sound and dance floor extensions. Whilst appearing disparate, the record never wilfully suffers from some kind of personality disorder, like so many others, flexing their tastes. There's no boast here, just a plethora of ideas clawing at the seams. Dredged 80s synths meet sampled percussion and analogue drum machines, while processed kosmische guitars duck and weave across nine tracks of genuinely twisted, undefinable genre bursting. One moment we’re hanging with Bernard Szajner somewhere in the Balearic Islands. Where are we now? At the techno club maybe. The walls here, however, are dripping with fluorescent ectoplasm and the speakers are groaning with ghouls. Or are we stuck in the loop of a 30 year old VHS commercials video? Hold my hand. The hectic, emotional whistle stop visit from track to track recalls the mania sometimes suffered from travelling and visiting too many new places, in too short a window. Never settling, a restlessness, that ineffable wanderlust we all harbour in our wildest fantasy. But at what cost the psyche when that dream hits the cold fan of reality, and nausea lays its wretched egg in our skull? Life, as we all find out, will deliver us many highs and many lows. The certainty? We shall live and we shall love. We will rot and we will leave. May we embrace it all and never stop travelling towards our dreams, despite the cost to our souls.
