Love You Better is a song that we wrote on a writing trip to Maderas Village in Nicaragua a few years ago with Jakob Bjørn-Hansen aka Bearson. It was the most incredible place, on the beach and in the jungle, and every night we’d go to bed to the sound of crickets and howler monkeys. One morning I woke up with the chorus of Love You Better in my head, it came to me in a dream, and we spent the day finishing the rest of the song. Not long after, we recorded the song with the St. Lucia live band in the studio all playing together, and what you hear in the final version is basically that live recording with a few additions. I feel like the energy really comes across in the recording and I can’t help but smile every time I hear it. It can be tough for me to analyze my own lyrics, but for me this song is about that person in your life who brings lifts you up when you’re down and basically loves you for better or for worse, and through the sunshine and the rain.
