Lamb's Ear

Lamb's Ear

Ann Annie is the stage name for Portland based composer Eli Goldberg. In his formative years, Ann Annie was introduced to music by classical music and orchestral scores which became some of his first and favorites genres to listen to on a deeper level. Eventually translating this into soft ambient atmospheres using tape manipulation and various synthesizes. Although primarily an instrumental artist, over the last few years Ann Annie has began working with artists/vocalists as an instrumentalist and producer. Releasing his 4th album, "The Wind", Ann Annie explores mixing a sort of classical mentality and instrumentation with some of the folk / country sounds and styles from his previous record, "By Morning". "Written and recorded almost completely in my house, including cello, upright bass, trumpet, clarinet, acoustic and electric guitar, pedal steel, modular synth, and lots of tape effects / processing" says Ann Annie. Lamb's Ear was written thinking of/for a friend, and inspired by the first movement of Gustav Mahler’s 9th Symphony. "I sent them the first page of sheet music for piano I had written in the car on tour, they sent a recording back and I built a rough demo with cello parts from other songs. The final version includes around 65 layered string parts performed by myself and Kate Koller", says Eli.
