„The Planets“ was written between 1914 - 1916 by British composer Gustav Holst. The Suite musically depicts the seven planets and its characters based on old Roman beliefs. Holst did not include Earth, the 8th planet in our solar system in this masterpiece of 20th Century orchestral music. The World Premiere took place in a private setting on September 29, 1918 in London, following a public performance on October 10th, 1920 in Birmingham. Even over 100 years after the first release Gustav Holst’s Orchestral Suite „The Planets“ still mesmerizes and inspires audiences, musicians and modern movie composers world wide. Although originally not conceived as film music this groundbreaking work is widely considered as the center stone (cornerstone) of modern Science Fiction music.
