Heigh Ho! Anybody Home? inspired me to write the piano fantasy. In Germany, the piece has been known for many generations as a popular 3-part canon (“Hejo, spann den Wagen an”) with a meditative and calming effect. It is also a well-known canon in France (“Vent frais, vent du matin”). Time to present it to my listeners as a piano fantasy at the beginning of fall.
