FIELDNOTES: COMPLETE

'Fieldnotes refer to qualitative notes recorded by scientists or researchers in the course of field research, during or after their observation of a specific organism or phenomenon they are studying. ... Fieldnotes allow the researcher to access the subject and record what they observe in an unobtrusive manner.' PART I These 4 songs were written in lockdown and became my findings about myself during such a weird and confusing time. I was observing what was going on, and writing about it for my own sanity and as usually these songs helped me to understand myself a lot better and cope with what was going on. This EP is the first in the series of releases coming over the following months. 1. Breathe It's funny because the song order is the order in which the songs were actually written. I remember writing this song in the peak of the first lockdown because it felt like everywhere I looked people were trying to make the most of being in a global pandemic. It was their opportunity to realise their dreams!! write a novel, make the best banana bread, get fit, and not let this precious time go to waste, and I was just bewildered because.. we're in a pandemic! no1 has a clue what's going on, and even now we are still trying to push ourselves to be working non-stop and on the grind. I thought if this time wasn't a call to rest then what was it gonna take? I also wrote it because it seemed I was the only one who was doing nothing! I started to feel pressure to 'be someone' but then deepening my yoga practice helped me to realise that just being during this time is more than enough. I don't need to DO anything. I can simply observe, take my time, and breathe. This is the first collab I did with Geo Jordan and it just felt so natural that we did another.. (yoyo) 2. YoYo I wrote this because the media was pissing me off. I felt like a lot of things were being exaggerated which resulted in lots of fear and separation. I was still in a period where I didn't have an understanding of anything really going on and so my views changed daily and I was questioning everything.. it felt like I was doing a lot of yoyo-ing simply because I was so confused. I felt like an alien and in my annoyance about that I dreamt about living off grid, where there's no TV and no iPhone, I'm with like-minded people and we just grow our veg and make clothes, and cook and sing and dance and make up our own rules, and that's how yoyo came about. It's a song about my dream life. Aside from that I really love the production on this song! it's so feel good, and was produced once again by Geo Jordan. 3. I Feel Something I wrote this song when I ran away to Margate for a few weeks to live by the sea during yet another lockdown. It was in February, it was cold, snowing, and everyone was miserable. I wanted to be on a beach somewhere but I felt trapped here. I ran away because I wanted to try something new, I actually took up running for a little while simply because for the most part I just felt numb and in a routine that was slowly killing my creative. So Eun (producer) sent me some stuff to work on and I freestyled this song and never changed it. The end of the song feels like a light at the end of the tunnel when I say 'somethings lit up, they won't get us' - I had gotten to the end of the song and felt like "ok, still got it!" because I hadn't recorded anything in a while. 4. Speck Of Dust The last song I wrote for the EP, and a good closing song because it made me realise that I was no longer in that 'I feel something' headspace. The weather was getting warmer, and my mind was getting clearer and I suppose I was getting used to this 'new normal'. I'd survived a dark time! This song is about how miniscule your problems can be sometimes, in the grand scheme of life. I'm just a speck of dust in this really big world. An ant! and none of this matters- and I mean that in the best possible way! all of this will simply fade away, so why worry?? It made me feel good to think about life in that way.. I worked on this song with Flwr Chyld and I'm still so blown away by the production- it's one of my faves. PART II (the love edition!) I wrote part 2 of this project about my observations on my cycles in love. The songs are in order of how things seem to go for me... 1. Beautiful Days The first song on the project is 'beautiful days' and I wrote this about dreaming of when my 'person' would come into my life and how it would feel to really KNOW it. The song reminds me of sunny days, birds chirping, and warmth on my face, and after writing it I remember just feeling excited to welcome this kind of love into my life and to truly believe that beautiful days lie ahead for me. Blue Lab Beats produced this one and it's perfect. One of my faves for sure 2. Introvert Hotline This is a song produced by Lvther and we wrote this song the first day we met! It's really special because it just flowed together so naturally and was really fun to make. He made this beat with the telephone ringing in the beginning and so I wrote about how much I hate when my phone rings! typical introvert. It was basically me making fun of myself, but I really do anxiety about phone calls so it was also good to get that off my chest and have people know that about me! Meeting someone new is often hard for me because I have to explain early on that I don't really like phone calls meaning I require a different means of communication.. it's a boundary I've had to enforce because I really am not that great on the phone. 3. Centred now that the boundaries are enforced in introvert hotline.. I start to get really excited about the newness of a relationship and this is what Centred is about. It's about feeling giddy and excited by someone and longing for them until you see them again. It's a lot more sensual than I'm used to (!!!) but I'm really proud of this song. I worked on it with Dougie Stu (from Brijean) which was a dream because I'm such a fan of them, and the groove is great! 4. Why? After love, comes loss. I wrote this song because I simply wanted to know why I keep repeating the same patterns and ending up at square one. the song is just that.. me grilling myself, asking over and over 'why?' Beau Diako produced this song and it's very beautiful, also very sad- much like love can be so I found it to be a powerful reflection. PART III This is the 3rd & final part of the FIELDNOTES project that I started in lockdown & so much has changed; so many lessons have been learnt & put into this music, but the best part is that I’ve been lucky enough to work with my friends on this project. I’ve co-produced the songs & I’m incredibly proud of that It’s about coming back to yourself time & time again, it’s about love, it’s about growth pains, & it’s about listening to your inner voice. God speaks in whispers. 1. Liminal Space 2. Undone "Undone" was the first single from 'FIELDNOTES PT III' and is inspired by a book I read last year called ‘I May Be Wrong’ by Bjørn Natthiko Lindeblad- a Swedish business executive who swapped his career out to become a Buddhist monk in Thailand for 17 years. It's such a beautifully written book & it stuck with me for so long afterwards that I decided to write a song about it It's about letting go of control, ditching the facade that so many of us find ourselves latching on to, the question of what would happen if we simply left it all behind & started again.. it's possible! when I read that book it opened up so many possibilities & helped me to remember that I can start again whenever I choose! This song marks a new beginning for me, & simultaneously the closure of FIELDNOTES in a way, as I wrap up this chapter x 3. Higher Self ‘Higher Self’ is produced by myself and Dougie Stu. We made this song in LA and it was such a fun one to make! It's about self-love, and the way I imagine my higher self engages and speaks with me, challenging all the thoughts I have about being hard to love. It’s a mantra of sorts that I hope will stick with you. 4. Take It Easy (Miles' Song) Epilogue 1. Winter Sun Winter sun is about how you feel when the sun finally comes out after dayssss of grey, dull skies during this season. It’s about the warmth kissing your face, & how everything seems ok once the sun comes out- it’s the little things. I made it with Lvther in Brixton studios & it must have been a cold dark day where we were just wishing for brighter days to come, so that’s how it came about 2. for the both of us "for the both of us" is a song about what happens after a romantic relationship ends. The dreams you held together, you plans you made.. what do you do with it all? It's sad because not only does the relationship die, but so does your future life with that person. When I wrote it I'd just been broken up with, and was thinking about all the things I would miss and all the things we wouldn't get to do anymore. I started off writing this on guitar and then worked with Shivum Sharma to add the strings and it turned into something really beautiful that I'm so proud of. I don't usually like to use the whole 'turn your heartbreak into something positive' but I'm glad I got a good song out of it! 3. Miss U credits released December 6, 2024 part i 1.
