As with much of Christopher Elliott’s work, nature is at the heart of his new EP Evolutions. The four pieces relate to each other in so far that they all grow from the same starting seed of an idea, a five note motif with minor key harmony. Like siblings with the same DNA, they develop differently, but still relate to each other within the wider family. Improvisation was the starting point for each piece which led to more traditional composition to complete. Thinking about other aspects of relation, such as how a group of islands belong to an archipelago or families that occur in nature such as with animals or flora, Christopher Elliott decided on the title Evolutions to tie the concept together.
