Next up on XVI Records, it’s a Bristolian link-up, with two of the city’s most prominent up and comers; (Mushkilla and Jevon Ives) joining forces to deliver their rugged and raw new EP ‘Dillinger’. With both parties having built up a solid following over the past few years, the ‘Dillinger’ EP sees the Jevon and Mush trading bars over head-nod inducing, psychedelic infused beats (courtesy of Jevon himself). The EP’s opener and title track ‘Dillinger’ lures the listener in with a cosmic vibraphone motif, before being joined by earth rattling subs and knocking beats - setting the perfect for Jevon and Mushkilla to go straight for the gold. An electric meeting of minds powered by psilocybin and good times, the EP emerges through a haze of heavy smoke - bringing dark moments, witty lines and infinite style together in perfect harmony. From the shadowy, moody sonic textures of ‘Devilish’ through the spaced-out, off-kilter charm of ‘Money When I Drink’ the duo’s contrasting tonalities perfectly punctuate the record - combining Jevon’s incredible ear for melody with Mush’s unmistakable flow. Having cut his teeth in Bristol’s bass scene under a number of aliases Jevon has been catching the attention of the UK’s Alt-Hip Hop scene, with recent shows supporting The Mouse Outfit and Coops it’s easy to see why. Mushkilla’s razor-sharp wit and lyrical ability have won him praise from the likes of Complex, Jamz Supernova, Mixmag, Tom Ravenscroft & Dummy Mag.
