OLMA is the moniker of one of many artist projects of Minneapolis composer, Chris Bartels. OLMA was inspired at home, he says, waking up one late morning, his family asleep, he grabbed his acoustic guitar and field recorder and began to catalog several musical ideas in various spaces around the house. OLMA is an ambient project with minimalist, experimental guitar elements that creates a cinematic feel to simple moments of stepping outside of ones self. In 2024, OLMA introduces a new collaborative album with friend Michael Grigoni, producing a unique and interesting slide guitar in the ambient realm. Caven Song is about turning inward - going inside yourself, much like this album. Chris says, "Part of the loop sounds like a bird almost, or reminiscent of spring or summer nature / wildlife sounds...there’s many layers in this song." Chris took Rhodes improv recordings, and processed them (reverse, effects, pitching, granular synthesis, etc) heavily to create interesting ambient layers and unexpected moments. Originally, Mike thought of the title ‘Craven Song,’ then looked up the meaning and saw it meant “lacking in courage, cowardly", then thought "eh, that’s not really what we wanted to portray, so took out just 1 letter".
