The works of Ludwig van Beethoven presented on this album were recorded in Nuremberg in 1997. Inspired by Frederic Lamond, Gröschel began playing on historical keyboard instruments in the 1930s and is considered the first pianist to play Mozart and Beethoven entirely on historical instruments. He was also the first pianist to present Ludwig van Beethoven’s grand piano by Conrad Graf to the general public after its restoration in the Beethoven House in Bonn and to record it. With this recording, Ernst Gröschel, Günter Schraml and Martin Rummel demonstrate the utmost interpretive tactfulness at the highest level.
