BUNNY MODE

BUNNY MODE

In nature, rabbits are prey animals. Small and vulnerable, they seize up and freeze in response to danger. While she was growing up, and later as an adult diagnosed with complex-PTSD due to childhood abuse, Jaguar Jonze was constantly in survival mode and would routinely freeze in response to physical, psychological, and emotional threats to her safety. A survival tactic she would later start calling “going BUNNY MODE,” it’s something that she learned to do from a young age; to become still and quiet instead of crying out. But now, she is ready to leave that old coping mechanism behind. “This album is a journey of saying goodbye to that ’BUNNY MODE,’” she says. “Making this album has been this process of saying - thank you for saving me and allowing me to survive up until this point, but I don’t need you anymore.” As well as being a personal triumph of resilience, BUNNY MODE is an incredible creative work that allows the world-building artistry of Jaguar Jonze to shine through. The debut album from Jaguar Jonze – aka Deena Lynch – finds strength in vulnerability, tackles the dark stuff with sharp-edged humour, and radiates confidence. Her brand of feisty, high-octane art-pop has seen Lynch compared to St. Vincent, Japanese Breakfast, Charli XCX, K.Flay, and Paramore. Like those musical contemporaries, Lynch is in command of every element of her creative output, both aesthetic and aural. From songwriting to styling, she is self-taught in every area, viewing creativity as a chance to explore, learn and grow.
