BATHED IN SKYLIGHT

BATHED IN SKYLIGHT

Influenced heavily by the improvisational, vaguely new-age based movements of the early 2010s, SHIFALA's newest record is one that pays tribute to the sounds that provided its groundwork while also carving out its own sense of identity. The texture almost seems to mimic the lack of fidelity of an output rather than input, sounding as if it were playing from a cheap radio to enhance a subtle punchiness. Alongside its fundamental role in complimenting the instruments themselves, the choices in fidelity also serve to give a sort of "shimmering" effect to the sound, causing it to waver in amounts that range from brazen to nearly imperceptible. It almost becomes hypnotic in this sense, luring the listener into a haze. Underneath the more superficial choices that lay above the compositions, exercises in repetition and small changes in patterns belie all of the qualities that all other elements build upon. Some short and some much longer, the tracks within 'BATHED IN SKYLIGHT' aim to snag your attention and then sneak to and around the background. In addition to the main album, a more energetic, breaks-focused remix of "FIGURES TRAVEL IN PERIPHERAL" has been provided by Shatterfoil alumnus Hakita under the track title "Fruity Guerrero", which spins the album's goal on its head, working with small chunks of the original sample and repurposing them in high contrast. Art and Partial Design by Shifala Partial Design by Cardian松の木 Track 10 is remixed by Hakita
