Apollo

Apollo

With over three billion lifetime streams, SYML (AKA Brian Fennell) —Welsh for “simple”—makes music that taps into the instincts that drive us to places of sanctuary, whether that be a place or a person. Born and raised in Seattle, Fennell studied piano and became a self-taught producer, programmer, and guitarist. He released his self-titled debut album in 2019, which included the platinum-selling song “Where’s My Love,” and the Gold Record fan favorite, “Girl”. Says Fennell, "I have a proud obsession with all things apocalyptic and the doom and wonder of an ever-expanding universe, which largely inspired the songs on the Infinity EP. They are an ode to the absurdity of human existence and my fondness for it. My inspirations were very cinematic ranging from big blaring soundscapes to more gentle, dusty settings like Ennio Morricone was so gifted in painting. I had so much fun making the song Apollo, based on this idea to write a western outlaw ode to the Greek god Apollo. Like many gods throughout human history, Apollo has a good and bad side. I’m intrigued by the idea that our beliefs and human understanding of this lore - which was truth for many - had zero impact on that god’s existence. For Infinity, Apollo is a journey into our planet’s brief history within the chaos of the universe, with spurs."
