Funky House fanatic Fiyahdred [they / them] is a South London producer, artist, DJ, and part of a new generation pushing the envelope of a funky-influenced sound. Under previous moniker Bamz, they released EPs on Jam Supernova's Future Bounce label and Club Djembe, and reworked some UK Funky classics with Scratcha DVA on the ‘Classix’ EP. The ‘Anyway’ EP is confident, smokey and bouncy, a joyful and exciting five-track set. What sets Fiyahdred apart is their effortless gift for fusing other genres and stretching funky's grid, their ear for satisfying detail and productions that put their versatile vocals at the centre. ‘Da Mellowdee’ combines a Rhodes lead with spooky Gqom-style drum fills and kettle drums, building in subtle rhythmic details and a G-Funk-esque synth melody into the mix, the only constant being the repeating vocal refrain and an off-beat accent. ‘Anyway (Do It)’ is dubbed out, with Fiyahdred rapping about getting high and doing your own thing, laced with gentle organ stabs and floaty chords over a flabby bassline. ‘Flutey Loopz’ pulls you into a meditation with a bleepy flute melody over a reggae keyboard and supple percussion while a bassline bounces underneath. ‘Tumpin’ takes a Cuban-style tango piano lead with Fiyahdred's joyous vocals celebrating the buzz of the dancefloor.
