And Those Who Were Seen Dancing

And Those Who Were Seen Dancing

On May 20th 2022 Tess Parks will release her new album ‘And Those Who Were Seen Dancing’ via London-based label Fuzz Club Records. It will be the Toronto-born, London-based artist's first solo album since her much-adored debut 'Blood Hot' was released on Alan McGee's 359 Music label in 2013 (the Creation Records founder being an early champion of Parks.) In the years since ‘Blood Hot’, Parks went on to tour to sold-out venues on both sides of the Atlantic, pick up a cult-like following and release a number of critically acclaimed collaborative albums and EPs with Brian Jonestown Massacre’s Anton Newcombe. Those included 2015's 'I Declare Nothing' LP, and the 'Right On' EP and 'Tess Parks & Anton Newcombe' LP from 2018. Tess has also written and performed on a number of Brian Jonestown Massacre albums, including 'Pish', 'Third World Pyramid’ and 'Dropping Bombs On The Sun', as well as singing on the revisited BJM classic 'Fingertips'. Talking about the album, Parks said: "The title is from the Nietzche quote “And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music”. This has really resonated with me for years. The songs were all written and reimagined various times throughout the past 13 years. The album is like hopscotch really. The songs were pieced together over time in various different places – between London, Toronto and Los Angeles – with friends and family. The recording and final completion of this album took over two years and wow - I learned that words are spells. I only want to put good out into the universe. I really felt discouraged to put this album out at one point given the state of the world but it feels important to remember we create our realities and it feels important to just share whatever beauty we can - to believe that our lights can shine and shine on through other people. Anything I create is for the sake of honouring my family, friends, the beautiful people I know I’ll meet along away. I think it’s important if you can reach even one person - the thought of anyone not sharing their art or anything they create is a real tragedy to me. Even if it’s not 'perfect', you’re capturing a moment.
