“Theatre Pop” songstress, Katie Lynne Sharbaugh, writes music inspired by pop universality, jazz-y energy, and lively personality. “In my songs, I narrate like I’m telling a story or giving an introspective monologue,” she notes. “I view it as a diary entry with a ‘theater kid’ vibe. I’m an open book about everything I’m feeling.” A Berklee College of Music graduate, Katie’s love of music started early, spending summers in Ireland where she learned violin and played traditional Irish staples in music camp. Back home, she studied and excelled at classical viola while simultaneously she immersed herself in the music of Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor, and Sara Bareilles. Her unique perspective on pop music has garnered attention from artists like Hozier and Noah Kahan with her rewrites of their songs, all while gaining fans of her own music, including the viral track “Omaha (The Only What If).” Act III is the third instalment of Katie’s debut LP project with Nettwerk. The EP features two new singles “Side Plot” and “Aphorisms,” as well as her previously released song “Omaha (The Only What If).” Speaking to the focus track “Aphorisms,” Katie says “This song is one of the heavier ones on the album. It addresses drug addiction and mental illness pretty directly. The lyrics are raw and honest, describing despair and desperation to get something right and feel better. The title refers to the age-old collection of phrases and sayings that people use to prove a point or teach a lesson that sometimes seem like just words.”
