Act II

Act II

“Theatre Pop” songstress, Katie Lynne Sharbaugh, writes music inspired by pop universality, jazz-y energy, and lively personality. “In my songs, I narrate like I’m telling a story or giving an introspective monologue,” she notes. “I view it as a diary entry with a ‘theatre kid’ vibe. I’m an open book about everything I’m feeling.” A Berklee College of Music graduate, Katie’s love of music started early, spending summers in Ireland where she learned violin and played traditional Irish staples in music camp. Back home, she studied and excelled at classical viola while simultaneously she immersed herself in the music of Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor, and Sara Bareilles. Her unique perspective on pop music has garnered attention from artists like Hozier and Noah Kahan with her rewrites of their songs, all while garnering fans of her own music, including the viral track “Omaha (The Only What If).” Her EP, Act II, is an exploration of social relationships and how they manifested in building her identity. From themes of loneliness to addressing conflict, Act II delves into the trials and tribulations of balancing friendships in a time of self-discovery and growth. The focus track, "Little Fortune," is a fast fan favourite with over 4M views on Reels and TikTok. The song's themes of nurturing and growth have struck a chord with audiences. On the other hand, “I Think I Am To You” reflects on feelings of resentment and frustration toward someone who takes more than they give in a relationship. “I wrote it after realizing that not every friend needs to be a BEST friend, and that some people are better off being kept at arm’s length in order to preserve my own boundaries,” says Katie.
