Is it plagiarism if you write a track after merely wondering: “what would happen if Robert Hood made 130 bass music?” If Jeff Mills jumps into your thoughts when stabbing some notes on an arpeggiator, should he get a writing credit? Is it a bite if you read a Joy Overmono review and write a sonically-unrelated response to it based only on an arrangement detail? On this EP Blackdown, and on one track Dusk, did just that, stripping back the 130 rollage space to a minimal, technoid-influenced palate based only on imagining past influences or tangential ideas from other worlds.
