This song tells a satirical story of a young girl’s arranged marriage with a wealthy old foreigner. It was not uncommon for poor families to sell their underaged daughters to rich men from other Asian countries to pay their debts or gamble. These girls were often perceived as property and suffered much abuse at the hands of their husbands and their families. The girl’s family throws a big wedding party where everyone drinks and celebrates joyously...everyone except for the teenage bride who can only cry when she becomes aware of the dark fate that awaits her. ĐÁM CƯỚI NHÀ EM is featured in the HBO Mini-Serie „The Symphatizer“ (directed by Par Chan-Wook (Oldboy) / Robert Downey Junior producer and actor), which is based on the novel of the same name (Pulitzer Prize 2016) by Viet Thanh Nguyen.
