X-Clan is a militantly pro-Afrocentric hip-hop group from Brooklyn, New York. The group was once the cornerstone act of the Blackwatch movement, a collective during the early 1990s, which also included Lin Que, aka Isis and Queen Mother Rage. This version of the group disbanded in 1995.
Later that year, Sugar Shaft died of AIDS, and in 1996, Brother J released an album with the Dark Sun Riders. Years later, after the death of Professor X from spinal meningitis, J formed a new version of X-Clan that included new members Master China, Kumu, Ultraman, ACL, Lord Cza, DJ Fat Jack, and Zulu, which released the album Return from Mecca in 2007 and Mainstream Outlaws in 2009, while keeping the group’s message intact.
