The Kaipara Live Sessions

The Kaipara Live Sessions

The “Kaipara Live” Sessions (2022) The “Kaipara Live” sessions were recorded live at the Otamatea Eco-Village on the Kaipara Harbour. The live recordings are a tribute to SOJOURN’s connection to the Kaipara Region and were inspired by the “Tiny Desk” style of recording. “We wanted to celebrate the EP in a different format. Recording live on the Kaipara was an amazing experience, surrounded by nature and just letting go and playing these songs” said Isaac Hunter. “We want people to connect to our music, and being surrounded by such beauty in Aotearoa, we want people to feel how we feel when we play these songs”. “We wanted to tell a story with these songs, so we have included extended intros for Mystic Ways & Waiting”. ”These songs are about celebrating our kaipara roots” The band engaged the services on Connor Jaine to record the session along with Robbie Gilmore who captured stunning video and still images from the day. The “Kaipara Live” Sessions captured 4 tracks off the bands recent “Mystic Ways” EP. The recordings feature stripped back acoustic guitar and percussion. The recordings also feature new band drummer Adam Blake playing the Cajon along with band-connection Joben Hicks on percussion. The recordings feature some extended introductions to songs for “Mystic Ways” and “Waiting” and the laid-back acoustic style matched with driving percussion make for a relaxed and beautiful listen.
