In 1939, Montréal born Oliver Jones made his debut as a pianist at age five at Union United Church, and was soon introduced to Oscar Peterson who asked his sister Daisy to teach young Oliver. So it came as no surprise when Jones drew critical notice for his technical dexterity and rollicking swing, often eliciting comparisons to Peterson. Jones's 80 year career includes 25 albums, numerous world tours, the Martin Luther King Jr award, the Order of Québec, the Order of Canada, and is considered one of the best-known and most talented Canadian jazz pianists of all time. In 2013, Dr. Jones was honoured with a Canadian stamp in his likeness paying tribute to black history.
