Mishegas is the electronic music project of Emilio Quezada Ibañez, the Mexico-born and New York City-based artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist with a range of sonic styles as diverse as his own upbringing and interests. Taking his name from a Yiddish word that can be interpreted as hectic, crazy, or eccentric, all terms which can be used to describe elements of his sound, Mishegas has released a steady stream of acclaimed singles over the past few years. The Temporary Love EP showcases the producer’s ability to create upbeat music set in atmospheric realms. “Untitled” sits in a sweet spot between an indie and electronic song, and “Feel It All” leans towards the heavier side of dance music. While never overtly wearing his artistic influences on his sleeve, the work nevertheless feels right at home next to the music of acts like Tourist, Tycho, and Rostam, bound by its melding of deft electronic manipulation, varying tempos, and integrated genre dipping. Of unreleased song "Sentir", Quezada reveals, “I cannot thank my parents enough for encouraging me to play Spanish guitar growing up. In hindsight, nylon strings + the progressions and rhythms found in classical Spanish music like 'La Malagueña' have always felt the most natural to me. I’m not sure why it took me so long to make a song with that in mind, but ‘Sentir' is a product of that and it feels like an exciting step towards a new, yet very familiar direction.” As for the EP’s title, Quezada offers this thought: “‘Temporary Love’ is about thinking back on past intense relationships or time periods in which you remember being extraordinarily happy, and how overwhelming and conflicting it can feel to all of a sudden realize how far removed or disconnected you are from those experiences. So, in a sense, it’s also about nostalgia and dealing with the conflicting emotions those feelings can bring.”
