Stemming from personal writings, poetry, and an interest in philosophy, artist and producer Samuel Proffitt is musical case study, who challenges genres and musical boundaries. Currently in the 4th year of his PhD at Brown University, his EP "Shades", revolves around exploration of a particular psychological locus that manifests itself following moments of extreme anguish and trauma, a re-breaking. Linked to Greek and Roman mythology’s notion of a shade, a spirit or ghost of the dead, either passing into the underworld after paying their debt or being forced to wander for eternity. The EP is about being thrust unwillingly into this locus and being surrounded no longer by people but by shadows flitting by.
