Radio Game EP2

Radio Game EP2

Slipstream is Mark Refoy and Jonny Mattock, both of whom were in the first line up of Spiritualized. Mark formed Slipstream in 1994, Radio Game is their new release, a double EP of 8 songs in total. It’s the band’s first new material since the 'Liberty' album in 2021. The lead song Radio Game is an homage to the life of Noor Inayat Kahn, the polymath turned WW2 spy who gave her life in the name of liberty. EP 1 features a cover of Song To The Siren, a song originally sung by Tim Buckley. All other songs were written by Mark Refoy, ably assisted by Jonny Mattock. All songs were mixed and mastered by Pete Gleadall, the renowned producer, engineer and musician who has worked with Pet Shop Boys for 30 + years. 1. Radiate A song that resolutely ploughs its own fuzzy furrow. It's a hymn to the belief that everything isn't in vain and that the sound of electric guitars will reach the far corners of the universe, if they haven't already. 2. I Surrender When I was a kid we'd play games like cowboys and indians and one of the manic cries was "I Surrender!" if you were gonna get 'killed.' Now that I'm an older kid, I realise you just have to surrender to the way of all things. Or something like that. 3. Nene Blue There are a whole bunch of inspirations to this song. It started out as a cover of Your Silent Face by New Order - I love that song and I love that band. I'll often start a cover of a song and it'll somehow morph into another song of it's own accord. I remember hearing Jah Wobble once say in an interview that if you go to a river it'll talk to you. Even though he's not mentioned in it our dear friend Pat Fish RIP (Jazz Butcher) was on my mind a lot when I was writing this. He was a great supporter of us, I think he would've liked it. I remember I once saw a photo of Willie Nelson's guitar, Trigger, and I thought, "that is beyond beautiful." It's like an icon, you can meditate on it and eventually get an answer to what's on your mind. 4. Hope Hope. That one word, says it all really.
