I literally woke up from a dream with this tune in my head, something I vaguely recognized but couldn't quite place. I completed the song around ten minutes later and recorded it, but couldn't shake the feeling of familiarity. It later popped into my head - there was a "resonant" similarity to a piece by Ravel, Pavane Pour une Infante Défunte, a piece I've always loved. It's more in the spirit of the piece than the actual melody itself, but still unmistakable. I don't remember what the dream was that inspired it, but both my song and Ravel's Pavane have a floating, dreamlike quality to them; perhaps Ravel was also inspired by a dream? We'll never know, but this song carried me into his peaceful, "impressionist" world where hopes and dreams can come true.
