Junction

Junction

Dripping with charisma, Fedzilla’s debut EP ‘Junction’ draws on Global South roots and silver tongued hip hop to cook up a storm with Latin fire, rich sampling and piercing stories. After more than a decade of performing and collaborating, the stellar 4-track EP dances through upbeat anthems of pulsing rap, dancehall swagger, Latin-american folk fusion and salsa. Produced by pianist, composer and producer Eliane Correa, the EP consolidates years of working side by side, most notably in their award-winning band WARA, which Correa founded and led. Co-produced by Paris-born, London-based Kensaye, the stellar producer, remixer and DJ adds a punchy thickness inspired by global club sounds. HIghly anticipated, ‘Junction’ is a potent testament to Fedzilla’s skill as an MC and a snapshot of her musical junction and journey. The lead single ‘Tiempo’ is a cosmic probe of space and time, and features Puerto Rican singer Marina y su Melao, who brings an ambrosial presence to the time-defying choruses. In ‘Closure’, produced by Kensaye, raw lyrics drill their way through a pulsing beat doused in 00s hip hop strings samples. In the tell-all lyrics she dines with her demons, and playfully wrestles her ego. With an instinct for performance, ‘Salsa Insecurities’ is a humorous diaspora soliloquy. With tongue-in-cheek humour she explores the identities of ‘Latinidad’ and grapples with the consequences - a 21st century salsa song gone wrong… in all the right ways. Meanwhile, ‘Flight Paths’ wears its heart on its sleeve as a retrospective reminder of the strength of our memories and histories. It’s a humble anthem in ‘Junction’s fascinating crossroad of styles and expressions. The production and recording of this EP have been made possible by the PRS Foundation’s ‘Women Make Music Grant’. The creation of this music was supported using public funding by Arts Council England’s ‘Develop Your Creative Practice’ Fund. ‘Junction’ will be released by Movimientos Records on November 24th.
