Sogen is a new electronic duo made up of Japan-based Rick Goddard (aka solo artist Kogane) and China-based Auryn Waring (aka solo artist Shinamo Moki and ½ of duo Tolari). Heavily inspired by video games and episodic anime, this is a project assembled deep within the online world. A concept album from start to finish, Sogen's debut album has a narrative-driven story arc full of emotional depth, empathy, nostalgia, and cinematic sounds. An illustrated/animated concept and narrative developed by Auryn and Rick. Centered on themes of nostalgia, AI, and humanity, You’ve Got Me tells the story of a female twenty-something developing a program that allows users to relive, alter or erase past memories. This idea will be hinted at and pieced together throughout the album’s release campaign via social media posts, animated promo, and cover art. About their latest single, "Empty Project", and their final before the album, the duo describe it as "our favorite track on the LP. Light, sparkly and optimistic with a sound palette which is assembled from all the previous songs." Story idea: The title refers to an empty document, a blank page or in this case, a clean start. The girl decides to rebuild her VR memory bank from scratch, building it from all the handwritten pages, drawings and photographs from her keepsake box. Memories from all across her past swim around her head in a digital blur and Dog-0 agrees to re-upload all of the bad memories again. We see her humanity gauge slowly refill to 100%.
