Some personal notes from Emma about her upcoming EP: “The title ‘Chelsea Bridge’ is not normally considered a vocal song, although there were lyrics written to it in 1958. Ella and Sarah both released wordless versions. The only recorded version with lyrics was by famed British jazz vocalist 'Tina May', who I used to call 'Aunty Tina'. She taught me this song 10 years ago, and it's so hard it's taken me that long to perfect that crazy melody! After her passing away from a horrific brain tumor a few years ago I decided to do this arrangement and record a meaningful version dedicated to her. That is why this EP is called 'Chelsea Bridge'. In other news I have just found out I’ve been nominated for ‘Jazz Act of the Year Award’ at the 12th Boisdale Music Awards hosted by Jools Holland & YolanDa Brown! Previous winners have been: Raye, Gregory Porter, Claire Martin, Cleveland Watkiss, Emeli Sande, Judi Jackson, Claire Teal and Soweto Kinch I've also been nominated for 'jazz vocalist of the year' at the British Parliamentary Jazz Awards (3 years in a row!). Another cool fact is that we three musicians are my best mates, we just spent 7 weeks touring Europe and China together and then went to the studio to record this EP, we arranged all of these tracks together and played them on the fly in the studio. We literally read each other's minds. it's so crazy, i hope that comes across in the music.”
