Sogen is a new electronic duo made up of Japan-based Rick Goddard (aka solo artist Kogane) and China-based Auryn Waring (aka solo artist Shinamo Moki and ½ of duo Tolari). Heavily inspired by video games and episodic anime, this is a project assembled deep within the online world. A concept album from start to finish, Sogen's debut album has a narrative-driven story arc full of emotional depth, empathy, nostalgia, and cinematic sounds. An illustrated/animated concept and narrative developed by Auryn and Rick. Centered on themes of nostalgia, AI, and humanity, You’ve Got Me tells the story of a female twenty-something developing a program that allows users to relive, alter or erase past memories. This idea will be hinted at and pieced together throughout the album’s release campaign via social media posts, animated promo, and cover art. For newest single, "Banjo Falls", the duo describe the track as "a twinkly downbeat post rock track which crumbles into a meditative soundscape of drones, music box chimes and a foley recording from Banjo Falls itself." Story idea: The girl looks over at a photo she took at Banjo Falls and puts her headset on transporting her to a virtual reproduction of her memory there. She and Dog-0 sit on a rock overlooking the waterfall. In her anger she throws a stone at it but the stone glitches out and is erased before it can impact the water. If every negative thought, event or flaw is instantly patched up or deleted then she wonders if she will still appreciate the good times or just slowly begin to take them for granted. The flaws remind her of the difficult challenges which she’s overcome, how they’ve shaped her and contributed to what it means to be human. She decides it’s time to make a change to the program.
